As the first town, and fastest growing municipality in Sweden, Sigtuna has ambitious goals.
Sigtuna’s strategy focuses on its cultural heritage and the natural advantages the destination enjoys when it comes to its location. In summer of 2011 plans were made to explore the idea of creating a festival. With the town enjoying a strong literary heritage the focus quickly became literature – an area that has an added interest because of the effect this can have on children and education standards.
On a dark November night in 2011 the first literature evening was held. The evening was a test to see if there was an appetite for such an event. Over 200 people attended, which featured four of Sweden´s most well known authors giving readings. On the strength of this bigger plans were made.
In Augusti 2012 Sigtuna held its first Literature Festival. Now it is a tradition. August 23-24, 2014 the third Festival will take place. Sweden’s first town – Sigtuna, will be filled with interesting discussion and seminars all with the written word in focus.
